coup spécial de Charizard coup spécial de Charizard

The Pokémon trainer has the ability to switch from one Pokémon to another via down B. Changing the play-style put away, it's very useful to trap an opponent trying to recover on the stage, for example quickly switching between Squirtle to Ivysaur, who gives more options to kill fast at ledge. Moreover, the switch can give you access to Charizard who has 3 jumps, and is way better to recover to the stage! Certainly the best move to exit disadvantage state and to radically change the play-style and the entire game dynamic.

Best moves

  • FORWARD TILT

Charizard deals an amazing pressure at high % with this long-reached and not that laggy move. The flaming part can kill very early and can put an enemy into an edgeguard situation, one of the best situations for the trainer. As Charizard is often chosen at high %, this move alone creates fear in the enemies' soul. However, if dodged, this move is not safe, so be careful.

  • BACK AIR

This move also pressures your opponent a lot and can even kill at 50%, something completely normal. We can ensure this attack after an Up Air, a Back Throw and even a Neutral Air if the enemy misses his DI.

  • GRAB

The grab is thus interesting for his combo Back throw to Back air, that we already talked about. However, his other throws are interesting because Charizard owns two kill throws that can both take down a stock if correctly used.

  • NEUTRAL AIR

The Neutral Air has a massive hitbox and, as for Ivysaur, is very useful offstage. Above the stage, a falling neutral air can lead into a Up Smash or a Down Tilt depending on the opponent you're fighting against and his %. And because Charizard can jump 3 times, you can still variate your timing to surprise your enemy. In a nutshell, a great neutral tool.

  • UP SMASH

Charizard's Up smash is simply one of the fastest Up smash in the entire game and thus is one of the best Out Of Shield option of the game. If we add his great running speed, you are going to use it a lot like Fox, while running on the ground to cover enemies' landings as fast as possible. However, you need to be careful, because the Up Smash almost doesn't hit behind him.

Bear the flame against the cold of the night

Concerning Charizard, don't mind about using him a little bit sooner than expected to ledgetrap the opponent and don't control him only when you are at high %. Don't forget that he has an excellent neutral and that he can steal a stock very fast: thus, see him as an advantage.

in a world we must defend !

Most players will tend to think that every Pokémon works in a certain range of %: we usually start with Squirtle, we continue with Ivysaur and then we end with Charizard. It's not always true and you need to adapt or even be able to start with Ivysaur, depending on the Match-ups. Also, don't forget that you're going to switch your Pokémon in disadvantage, even if it's better to not abuse the switch here. You can also switch to try to get a fast edgeguard kill or for your recovery, so you should better learn to adapt yourself according to the situations.

    Gotta master 'em all !

Don't commit the error of playing only one Pokémon to begin with. Every Pokémon together makes a whole, that is very important to understand in purpose to master the whole potential of the trainer. Learn the killpower of every Pokémon depending on the Match-ups and choose the better Pokémon for every situation, though it's complicated.

    In a nutshell

By playing Pokemon Trainer, pleasure will come from his adaptability, granting you the feeling that every game is really different, because each Pokemon doesn't play the same. It explains why the Trainer is not boring at all, between his creative combos, his great offstage gameplay and his great kill power. It is certainly one of the character that gives his player the greatest freedom ever to express himself while being really pleasant to control. And for the determined ones, the fighter has enough tools at his disposal to always give something to work on and to perfect. To sum up, a good choice to quickly progress and to figure out how to adapt to each player you are facing and to each Match Up.
