16 Sheik

First appearance :
The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time (1998-N64)

Sheik is a very mobile character who possesses a great ability to perform very interesting combos but requires to take a lot of risks because any mistake could cost you a lot. Her light weight makes her easy to be launched away quickly, especially if your opponent is under a rage effect.

Pro Tips

Best moves

  • FORWARD AIR

It is her main aerial attack in neutral because it is pretty safe on shield and it starts most of her combos.

  • NEUTRAL B

It is again an essential attack to master for Sheik players. It can be charged up to 6 needles. This move forces your opponent to approach which allows Sheik to develop the rest of her gameplay. Also, Needles this move can start a lot of combos and some interesting kill setups.

  • NEUTRAL AIR

Is is also an excellent combo move which can be sometimes useful in the neutral. The move doesn't suffer from lag and stays active 27 frames, which makes it dreadful in a ledgetrap situation to cover different options. Besides, this attack allows you to realize some kill set ups like with the Neutral Air Bouncing Fish.

  • UP AIR

It is also one of her best moves. Even if it is one of her hardest move to master, it is essential for every combos especially when it is used to drag down your opponent by fast falling. Once again, this move is good because it can lead into smashes, and so, to kill set-ups.

    Last tips

    Use the Deku nuts

It is better to avoid mashing buttons and being overly aggressive by rushing your opponent at all costs with the excuse of playing a fast character. It is the best way to poorly space your moves or to use an unsafe move and being heavily punished for it. The purpose of Sheik‘s gameplay is not to charge your opponent but to play as safe as possible, in order to force your opponent to make a mistake so to put them in disadvantage and keeping them in that state for as long as possible.

    Learn the Serenade of Water

Do not use Forward tilt/F-tilt in neutral. It is a mistake a lot of players still do, but you need to remember that this move is not safe on shield, since you’re vulnerable during 15 frames after hitting a shield with it, which is a lot. The move would be better used when you are sure it will connect,in a tech chase situation or, obviously, during a combo.

    Stay in the Forest Temple

As tempting as it can be, especially when you know how hard it can be to kill with Sheik, do not throw yourself off-stage to kill your opponent by jumping towards them. With Sheik, you expose yourself to dying at 20%,so you really should identify the ideal opportunities, when your opponent has no more options left or if a true kill setup is possible.

    In a nutshell

The pleasure you will have playing Sheik will come from her style and from the fact that aestheticly, this character is prety cool, may it be in her way to move around or mostly in her combos which alternate between different phases, weiter it’s in the air, grounded or off-stage. In addition to this, seeing as this character has practically no lag, she is super pleasant to play because you won't feel limited and will have the sensation to be able to do whatever you want. However, this character can be frustrating to play, mostly because when you start playing Sheik, you have to be conscious that you're gonna have to slowly rise your opponent percents 5% by 5% whereas they can easily kill you when you’re at 60%. Knowing that past 180-190% dealt to your opponent, Sheik does not have any kill setups anymore, while your opponent, benefiting from rage, becomes even more dangerous. So, this character requires you to keep your cool and remain focused, while bringing you a great feeling of freedom when you manage to work through her combo game.
