32 Ike

First appearance :
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (2005 - GC)

Ike wields the sword Ragnell and differs from the others Fire Emblem (and from other franchises) swordsmen. Indeed, Ike is a heavy swordsman whose every attack can deal massive damages that can allow him to steal a stock very quickly. Besides, his great sword is also giving Ike an interesting range.

Pro Tips

Best moves

  • NEUTRAL AIR

This is Ike's best move. This aerial has low lag and a great range : this move is pretty safe on a shield if well-spaced and is thus hard to punish. Then, this is a good conditionning tool to vary your approaches and to win the neutral. It can lead to an Up air until 80%, allowing Ike to quickly steal a stock. Since the patch, the Neutral air ladders are also starting and killing sooner.

  • DOWN TILT

This move is fast and can be easily used after a parry or followed by a Forward air. It can cover landings and eject some sleepy enemies staying on the ledge in a perfect angle. It can then lead to combos on a Forward or a Back air that can kill opponents at 60% ! Now, we can even start combos followed by a Back or an Up air at 60-70%.

  • FORWARD TILT

It is a very good Ike's option thanks to its great range and its marvelous killpower. Actually, this move can kill at 90%, making this fearsome when well spaced. In fact, with this move, you are able to calm down aggressive opponents and to stop an enemy to recover at the ledge. However, take care because this move is punishable if wrongly spaced.

  • OTHER AERIALS

Ike can also rely on (almost) all of his other aerials, like the Up air which is one of the best juggle tools among the game thanks to its marvelous range and its kill power. We can also talk about his Back air that is very safe when performed with a short hop fast fall and that can kill very fast at the ledge after a Neutral air! Finally, his Forward air has almost no ending lag : thus, this move is good for edgeguarding and recovering more easily.

  • UP B

This option an is interesting Out Of Shield option. This move has super armor at the beginning that helps Ike to get out from some situations ! An interesting but risky move on stage. Then, offstage, it will be better to recover with a Side B instead ! Since the patch, this move has also become fearsome because it can kill very soon while repelling an enemy's offensive. We can also confirm it with a Neutral air to kill between 70 and 90%.

  • GRAB

One of his best options. Actually, it's a move that perfectly completes the Neutral air and every throw is interesting. Then, the Down Throw allows you to start combos. The Up Throw is putting the enemy in a risky situation that reduces his options. Finally, his Forward and Back Throw are essentially used to control the stage !

    The radiant path

Avoid to spam or to wrongly use some of your moves. The Neutral air may be a good option but if you only use it, you will get predictable. Besides, Ike's Smashes must only be used on a read because these are useless in the neutral. In a nutshell, even if Ike's moves are powerful, these are also very punishable so use them wisely!

A crimea to waste your jump

Ike has an exploitable recovery, meaning that keeping his second jump will be essential in order to have a chance to recover. So, don't jump right after being offstage because this often means that your stock will be lost. It's better to choose an airdodge or a special attack first to keep your jump in case you gets hit.

    Not a rookie anymore

In order to play Ike, you need to master the fastfall that consists in orientating your left stick downwards in the air. For Ike, mastering the fastfall is crucial because the Neutral air combos become true with it and some moves like the Forward or the Back air are almost not punishable and even sometimes not punishable at all. It's so useful that you can even confirm a kill on your opponent with that move.

    In a nutshell

Ike owns some mattering moves that can make a difference and totally change the curse of a match. More than that, placing some of these moves will require you to learn how to read your opponent's game which will grant you the feeling that you deserved your victory. Besides, playing with Ike forces you to stay careful and extremely patient while thinking about your offensive options. Thus, playing Ike will also help you to develop your Neutral game ! Training with Ike is then a good way to work your basics again and to progress in any aspects of the game.
