B

Refers to a character’s special attacks, usually assigned to the B button on a controller.

B Reverse

An advanced technique that involves starting a special attack, usually a charging Neutral B. Then, quickly tilt the directional stick in the opposite direction you are facing to cause your character to flip while maintaining their original speed and direction.

Back Air

An aerial attack that is performed when you unleash an attack in the air while pointing the directional stick towards the back of your character.

This attack is performed when you grab an opponent and point the directional stick towards the back of your character, throwing your enemy to your back.

This is when you trick your enemy into thinking you are going to do something to make them react and attack into the void.

This is a tree that represents the matches played or to be played in a tournament.

When a character has been upgraded by a patch, it is said to have been buffed, as opposed to nerfed.

Buffer

This is the ability to prepare an attack before it can be launched. If you are attacking but press to make another attack, the second attack will automatically be launched at the first possible frame. While this offers more flexibility in gameplay, it can be quite annoying when combined with Smash Ultimate’s problematic online.

Bury

This is the act of burying someone in the ground with an attack or grab. When the opponent is buried, they can’t do anything and must quickly press buttons and move their stick to get out quickly.
